Sans doute le chef d'orchestre le plus marquant du XXème siècle, Herbert von Karajan était né en Autriche en 1908. Il a dirigé le Philharmonique de Berlin pendant 35 ans. Figure dominante du monde de la musique classique depuis les années 50 jusqu'à sa mort, Karajan a enregistré à profusion avec les plus grands artistes de son temps et vendu environ deux cent millions de disques. Le voici dans cet enregistrement très bien restauré de la monumentale 8ème symphonie de Bruckner, captée en 1958. Être fidèle à la partition et à la volonté des compositeurs, tel était le crédo de ce chef resté dans l'histoire.
