When his previous band, Ophidian I, went on hiatus in 2015, drummer Ragnar Sverrisson began to model his own vision of black metal in the heart of the deep nights of Iceland. From this intense period of solitude, Helfró carved its way into the landscape of extreme metal. Its self-titled debut album was released in the midst of the pandemic, but its chilling melodies and raw aggression slipped into several year-end top 10 lists.||Today, the hooded duo returns with its follow-up, 'Talgrof', which perpetuates the now-characteristic sound of Helfró. In this regard, a track like "Flarað Fræði" proves to be a true hailstorm. But while this new album deals in particular with addiction and intrusive thought patterns, it does not shy away from breaking free from the rigid confines of black metal.
