Musique pour piano

Description

Villa-Lobos did remarkable work to collect and preserve the popular music of his country, Brazil. This educational effort has come down to us in the collection titled Guia Prático (Practical Guide), where he gathered for the Brazilian National Conservatory of choral singing a large majority of songs and popular melodies - 137 in total - that are still relevant today. However, he was unable to complete his project. These pieces are variously written for solo piano, for two voices with accompaniment, for choir, or for solo voice with piano accompaniment. This is the first time that the entire collection is being recorded (Guia Prático X and XI are yet to be released), in the order of the pieces, and with the translation of the melodies (available on the Naxos website).
