Symphonie fantastique - Grande ouverture de Waverley

Description

Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra begin their long-awaited Berlioz cycle. Here they offer us Symphonie fantastique and the Waverley overture. In this music, Berlioz gives free rein to his imagination, drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources, including his own turbulent life. His experience of powerful, unrequited love finds expression in the intense Symphonie fantastique, recounting the artist’s “hopeless love,” with the help of waltzes, witches and hallucinatory nightmares. Few orchestras are as familiar with Berlioz’s music as the LSO, and here Valery Gergiev subjects this memorable work to his luxuriant vision.
