Hayden Pedigo is an acoustic guitarist and sound designer from Amarillo, Texas. He is perhaps best known for his endearing bid for a seat on the Amarillo City Council at the age of 25 after his Harmony Korine-inspired parody campaign video went viral. Hayden’s political journey has now been transcribed into a documentary, Kid Candidate, which premiered at SXSW this year. Hayden’s music is equally enchanting, combining the early American picking style of guitarist John Fahey with a propensity for experimental sound design and manipulation. By the time he was in his early twenties, Hayden had already collaborated with such notable figures as Charles Hayward of This Heat, Fred Frith, Werner Diermaier of Faust, and outlaw country legend Terry Allen. However, it’s important to expect the unexpected with Hayden Pedigo. With black metal-tinged album covers, an archenemy of the term “Cosmic Country,” Hayden’s satirical humor extends across the various personas he portrays on his Instagram page and every fiber of his being.
