No one combines death and black metal like the Polish band Hate. With unwavering malice and a unique atmospheric sense, the group pushes the boundaries of their art even further on Rugia, their twelfth full-length album. "It was clear to me that it had to build on our previous record, 'Auric Gates Of Veles' (2019), and evolve from it." However, each Hate album is a distinct journey, and you never find yourself in the same place twice. "You never know exactly where it will take you," says singer/guitarist ATF Sinner, who has led the band since 1991. The arrival of fresh blood in the band has also contributed to the unique sound of Rugia. Pavulon (drums), who had been with the band since 2014, was forced to leave due to serious health issues. The band brought in Nar-Sil (Neolith, Virgin Snatch, Embrional) to replace him. "Working with a new drummer this time was a fascinating experience for me. Nar-Sil's technique and presence are very different from Pavulon's, and you can feel it. I believe we have managed to create a refreshing new chapter in our discography, composing nine truly sinister assaults of pure rage." The band chose to rework the album at Hertz recording studio in Poland, and it was recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band Wieslas.
