2020. During the year of the Corona pandemic, while the world was forced to stop, five old friends set in motion an old idea that had been in the air for a long time - and that would eventually become a new band: The Halo Effect. The members of The Halo Effect are masters in their field, pioneers of the Gothenburg melodeath scene. The lead guitarists and death metal drummers Niclas Engelin and Jesper Stromblad, lead singer and lyricist Mikael Stanne, backed by the solid backbone and foundation of bassist Peter Iwers and his accomplice of more than twenty years, the ultra-powerful drummer Daniel Svensson. Having known each other since their earliest childhood in the late 80s, the members began playing together in various projects in the 90s before forming In Flames and Dark Tranquility, two truly iconic bands that would later dominate the Gothenburg scene. The two bands were particularly important forces behind the nickname of melodeath: The Gothenburg Sound. A sound that resonated all over the world and influenced countless metal bands in the 90s and early 2000s. That was also the original idea behind The Halo Effect - to go back to the roots and explore what revolutionary metal sounded like at the time, before adding the experience and skills that the members can bring today. The result is an exceptional album and a true masterpiece for melodeath fans, with obvious echoes of the Gothenburg sound.
