Born in Ethiopia in 1946, Hailu Mergia is the former leader of the jazz-funk band Walias Band. After moving to the United States, he released *Hailu Mergia & His Classical Instrument: Shemonmuanaye* in 1985. He created a psychedelic instrumental starting with his favorite instrument, the accordion, to which he added synth, electric piano, and drum machine.
