Haïg Sarikouyoumdjian, young master of the duduk (this oboe, so emblematic and evocative of the Armenian people), favors a personal, sober, and moving approach, between improvisations and traditional repertoire; a subtle aesthetic also applied to the crafting of his own instruments.
Haïg Sarikouyoumdjian studies the duduk in Armenia with various masters who teach him both the technique of the instrument and its nuances of timbre as well as the traditional repertoire and its subtleties (accuracy of intonations, rhythmic ambiguities, work on ornamentation, development of modes). At the same time, he collaborates on various projects led by Jordi Savall including Istanbul, Mare Nostrum, the Cathar Tragedy, Spirit of Armenia, etc. Gradually, his research on the timbre of the duduk leads him to take an interest in lutherie and the making of his own reeds with Ashot Martirosyan, then to the study of the art of turning and tuning in the Meyerrecorders workshop with Ernst Meyer and his two sons (renowned makers of baroque recorders).
