Quatuors à cordes K 387 et 458

Description

Les two quartets K.387 and K.458 are part of the Haydn Quartets, according to Mozart’s wish to pay tribute to his master and friend Joseph Haydn. Such a dedication clearly attests to the composer’s admiration for his colleague but also to a real self-confidence, although he repeatedly stated on many occasions that such works were “the fruit of long and difficult work”.
After a tour devoted to Mozart’s quartets, the Hagen Quartet wanted to record these two works for Myrios Classics. It is also the first opportunity for the ensemble to record on the “Paganini Quartet”, the only known string quartet today to be made exclusively of Stradivarius instruments and all of which once belonged to Niccolò Paganini.
