“Mandé Sila” is the new acoustic project created around Habib Koité. Habib Koïté is accompanied by “Magic balafon” Aly Keïta (Côte d’Ivoire) and Lamine Cissokho (Senegal), a descendant of a long line of griots dating back to the 14th century, on the Kora. These three standard-bearers of West African musical traditions come together to celebrate the Mandé Sila: the path of the Manding empire, symbolizing languages, cultures, and all the musical diversity and richness of West Africa. The trio is joined on stage by percussionist and longtime companion of Habib, Mama Kone (Mali). Three virtuosos linked by the same cultural heritage, a melting pot that inspires their compositions and elevates the renewal of the genre. Mandé Sila was created for an American tour last November. On stage, we witness an acoustic moment of great complicity, a beautiful emulation between these excellent musicians who take turns playing pieces by each of them. A great moment of shared pleasure among themselves and with the audience.
