From Another World is more than an album title: it is an invitation to travel through the centuries, the continents and the emotions. At the heart of this project lies a meeting between two musical traditions: the elegance and architecture of European classical music and the expressive breath of Argentine tango. The Guttman Tango Quintet bridges these two worlds; it brings together musicians who naturally draw inspiration from these two traditions, under the direction of violinist Michael Guttman. In From Another World, tango is not nostalgia. It is evolution. In the same way that Astor Piazzolla once freed tango from the dance hall to take it into the concert hall, Guttman engages in dialogue with the classics that shaped Western music. Each piece on this album starts from a familiar theme (Beethoven, Mozart, Mahler, Dvorak and others) and lets it wander all the way to Buenos Aires. What emerges is neither parody nor pastiche, but transformation. Recorded in January 2025 at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, this debut album captures a moment of creative alchemy, that of an ensemble of classical virtuosos yielding to the irresistible force of tango.
