Formed in 1998, Groundation is among the legends of global reggae. In 2018, the mythical Californian reggae jazz group reformed around its leader Harrison Stafford. He surrounds himself with the cream of musicians who, like him, come from the prestigious Sonoma State University. A reggae sound always imbued with jazz, combined with this new generation that infuses its talent and creativity, honors the reputation that has shaped Groundation since its inception.
After more than two decades and nine studio albums, Groundation, which has helped define American roots reggae, is back with its 10th studio album “One Rock.” This new opus perpetuates the legend of the Band with a sound and spirit pushed even further. Harrison Stafford leads the current formation of the group through 9 intense songs with complex arrangements, moving melodies, and lyrics that address the human condition, the human spirit, and the state of the world. Always mindful of respecting its elders and predecessors, Groundation enters history by bringing together the legendary reggae vocal groups Israel Vibration and The Abyssinians on one track, while working with the Congos on another. As with all Groundation releases, this album was recorded strictly analog on a 2” tape, with Jim Fox (Lion and Fox Studios) for recording and mixing.
The group will be in Europe to present this new album in spring and summer 2022!
