It is "Hebron Gate," the masterpiece of Harisson Stafford but also that of the extraordinary musicians who accompany him. In order to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its release, the charismatic leader of the group Groundation invites Brain Damage to completely revisit it.
It must be surprising; a simple succession of remixes, remastered tracks, or dub variations will not suffice. The original versions should not be merely briefly mentioned, and the whole must be readable and coherent. Passionate about this kind of constrained exercise, the French producer tackles it with the meticulousness he is known for. Thanks to this colossal work, all sorts of movements are then possible: recompositions, changes in harmonies, integrations of recording outtakes, additions of external and new elements. The inimitable style of the Californians, intertwining reggae and jazz, is endowed here with a different energy, psychedelic, more introspective, initially decidedly bewildering for fans but quickly captivating, for them as well as for newcomers.
