The song thrush is a migratory bird without strict borders. Its clear and sonorous song is recognizable by its alert rhythm, the repetition of motifs, and the diversity of stanzas (complex, varied, and inventive vocal emissions). Each singer has their own repertoire that may include imitations: the song can thus, to a certain extent, reflect the bird's habitat. - - This ornithological description may encourage you to observe birds more closely. Its main purpose is to invite you to engage with the heart and senses in the project that concerns us here: GRIVE, a bird's name for a (post-?) rock group of today. - - Agnès Gayraud (La Féline) and Paul Régimbeau (Mondkopf, Oiseaux-Tempête, FOUDRE!, Autrenoir, Extreme Precautions) share a taste for freedom, experimentation, and the search for new sounds. While their collaboration takes flight in early 2021 with the release of an EP, the two musicians begin a phase of experimentation as early as 2015 at the Performing Arts Forum in Saint-Erme*, in Picardy: in these rural landscapes, they sketch a new sound, both frontal and contemplative, where they inscribe stories of fry shops (‘Burger Shack’) and emancipation (‘How Many Years’), which Tales of Uncertainty, their first album, crystallizes into a singular work. - - Recorded live (at the Mer Noir studio in Paris and then at Mélodium in Montreuil), these eight tracks capture the effervescence and spontaneity of a meeting, revealing a chemistry like no other. - - Shoegaze? Slowcore? Post-folk? What does the label matter. Deeply organic, Grive's compositions summon the limbo and vast spaces. Marked by the sound of the 90s, they are, in their ambivalence, undeniably contemporary: at times sharp with their nervous guitar riffs or caressing with the thick and round bass of a Moog synthesizer. Here, the threatening storm (is it the heart that rumbles?). There, the melodies with clear lines and poisonous beauty that weave into languid and obsessive tempos. And as a common thread, Agnès's voice speaks directly to our subconscious daydreams, in that tiny border between dream and reality, where everything is uncertain. - - Grive's music has no watch. But it does something with time. ‘Wait & See’ is its cautious and ambitious motto.
