Grits and Glamour is the nickname of Lorrie Morgan and Pam Tillis. It's not really clear which one has the grit and which one has the glamour, but the union of their strengths is an unexpected joy for two talented singers whose careers have been in decline for years. Not to mention the fact that they are daughters of stars (George Morgan and Mel Tillis), who met as children. Both have experienced phenomenal success, but for Tillis, her last hit was Please, number 22 in 2001. Morgan has to go back even further with Maybe Not Tonight, her only top 35 since 1999, a duet with her ex-husband Sammy Kershaw. The record contains six duets (the first four and the last two), with Morgan and Tillis alternating solos on the other eight songs. The music is particularly successful on these duets, as Morgan and Tillis feed off each other's voices. The catchy single "I Know What You Did Last Night," by Al Anderson and Karyn Rochelle, works well, even with a hint of irony from women in their fifties. They also tackle the traditional country "I'm Tired," partly written by Mel Tillis and Webb Pierce. The voices of Morgan and Tillis blend perfectly with a lot of fiddle. The title track, catchy, has a Mexican touch towards the end.
