In 1976, Niney The Observer was widely recognized by journalists and record buyers as one of the most accomplished and inventive record producers in the Jamaican music scene. Over the previous six years, he recorded a succession of major hits featuring an assortment of big stars, including Dennis Brown, Ken Boothe, Delroy Wilson, Junior Byles, Big Youth, and Max Romeo, while also championing emerging local artists, including Michael Rose, Junior Delgado, and Glasford Manning, all of whom recorded landmark works under his direction.
This desire to work with established stars and unknowns continued in the years that followed, further enhancing his reputation not only as a producer of considerable talent and invention but also as a man of the people.
This 2 CD set brings together his finest works from the golden age of classic Roots music, with highlights ranging from classics like Gregory Isaacs, Cornel Campbell, Junior Byles, and Horace Andy to long-forgotten rarities, several of which are being widely released to the public for the first time in nearly 50 years.
