In France, the movement is often referred to as repetitive music. The main composers of minimalist music are Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, and John Adams. Henryk Gorecki is a Polish composer, who passed away in 2010. Although internationally recognized as a worthy representative of the minimalist movement, Gorecki remained very focused on his country. His best-known work is his Symphony No. 3 for orchestra and soprano op. 36, known as the "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs," which was revealed to the general public in 1990, thanks to the recording by soprano Dawn Upshaw, which sold 400,000 copies worldwide! Like Arvo Pärt, to whom he is often compared, Gorecki's music reflects his Catholic faith, as evidenced by the album Miserere, which is presented to us today by the Los Angeles Master Chorale (one of the best choirs on the current scene), with 2 world premieres: Lobgesang and the Marian Songs.
