Grandma’s Ashes is a female power trio of progressive rock. For almost five years, the band has been inviting listeners on an introspective and transcendent musical journey through the roads of France. Over dark, sometimes sarcastic lyrics, the voices of the three musicians intertwine. The lead vocals, clear and melodic, are enhanced by heavy and precise instrumentation.
This first full-length album, titled “This Too Shall Pass,” addresses the main theme of the transition to adulthood, as well as the ephemeral nature of events and material things. This album also reflects the evolution of the band and what Grandma’s Ashes has managed to achieve as a group, women, musicians, and friends over the past five years. The album was recorded, produced, and mixed by Fred Lefranc (Pogo Car Crash Control, Miossec, Toybloïd...) and mastered by Fabian Tormin.
On the cover, created by Studio Derville, we can see the 3 musicians with strong symbols: resentment symbolized by a dagger, desire by a grenade, melancholy by a wilted flower, as well as the thorns surrounding them symbolizing resilience. Musically, the album features strong tracks like “Aside,” “Cassandra,” and “Spring Harvest,” heavy and killer riffs like “Cold Touch” or “Caffeine,” but also more narrative tracks that will carry you away just as much, including “La Ronce,” “Lost at Sea,” and “Borderlands.”
