Just a few seconds of exposure to the rolling riffs of the opening track "Tom Cruise Control" is enough to remind you that it's Gozu's world, and we're just living in it. Five years after the release of the monstrous "Equilibrium," the Boston quartet returns with "Remedy," a hell of a way to make sure everyone realizes they might be the baddest American rock band, because they've taken everything to the next level. "There's a certain maturity mixed with a childlike enthusiasm for playing music, and we all play better now than we did on Equilibrium," says singer/guitarist Marc Gaffney. "We all tried to look at what we love, but especially what we don't love. Playing music is a gift, and when it becomes 'A Nightmare On Elm St Part 37.3,' it's over." The result is nine tracks of their signature blend of fuzzy, '70s-inspired riffs, rich and catchy grunge vocal melodies, and a touch of old-school trippy psychedelia, written and played with the utmost passion and enthusiasm, eclipsing the rest of their catalog. "The band wanted a very heavy, groove-oriented album with singalong choruses. We also wanted the sound to hit you in the chest, like a three-punch combination, left-right-left, like Micky Ward. The harmonies and melodies are elements we really examined and wanted to make shine, and the thick guitar sounds, bass, and drums were put under the microscope."
