Description

The Ouroboros - that is, the icon of the serpent or dragon eating its own tail - appears to some as an affirmation of the brutality of nature. For others, with a gnostic tendency, it symbolizes the duality between the divine and the earthly in humanity. But more often, it is simply seen as the endless cycle of death and rebirth that characterizes life on this planet. It is an image that imposes itself in the universe of Goat, the always mysterious and revitalizing collective, whose latest album marks a new adventure, above and beyond this particular plane of reality. Although this group has named its albums Requiem and Oh Death, this eponymous salvo proves once again that transcendence and metamorphosis are its key themes. Goat is an unpredictable band that summons rhythmic rituals in an inimitable, captivating, and sparkling style, equally capable of igniting dance floors as it is of expanding minds. 'One More Death' and 'Goatbrain' are spectacular curtain-raisers, embodying a hedonistic spirit driven by incisive funk and possessed by relentless fuzz/wah guitars. Elsewhere, the band's love for hip hop fuels the epic album closer "Ouroborus," which marries a contagious vocal with a breathless breakbeat reminiscent of Lalo Schifrin.
