The name of Giuseppe Tartini resonates familiar to the ears of music lovers, while his music remains mysteriously unknown and underestimated. This is likely due to the inevitable Devil's Trill, whose fame is as deserved as it is overexposed, overshadowing a remarkable output of over 130 sonatas. As we pay tribute to the master of Padua on the 250th anniversary of his death, the choice becomes challenging given the abundance of music of constant and exceptional quality. The Duo Tartini has selected five unpublished sonatas for this program; four date from the twilight of Tartini's life, but all share the extreme virtuosity required for their interpretation, the need for perfect mastery of the instrument to deliver a natural, musical version, reflecting the typical cantabile of the Italian composer. David Plantier is undoubtedly "the" baroque violinist most suited for this mission; he has passionately championed Tartini and his repertoire for years. Together with his partner Annabelle Luis, they provide a velvety soundscape for this abundant music, and the beauty and modernity it embodies can only touch the hearts of contemporary listeners.
