"Just as the worthy and skilled painter imitates all created things in nature by varying colors, so too can one imitate the expression of the human voice on a wind and string instrument." This concept, presented by Silvestro Ganassi in his work titled La Fontegara as early as 1535, inspired Concerto Scirocco in its quest for the greatest expression in the interpretation of instrumental music from the 16th and 17th centuries. Alongside the development of the instrumental repertoire, rhetoric becomes the link between the instrument and the voice, between imitation and reality. Where words fall short, composers and instrumentalists use rhetoric to enchant listeners just as singers did. In this fifth recording, Concerto Scirocco focuses on a selection of pieces from the early Baroque, "painting with notes" several musical tableaux full of contrasts: the pulsating rhythm of battle in the Symphonia "A gran battaglia," the seductive sirens in the Aria sopra "Questa bella Sirena" by Marco Uccellini, or the operatic tension in the Sonata a tre by Francesco Cavalli.
