GIRLS WITH GUITARS GOT EYES ON YOU !

Description

The true all-female groups, the Hairem, the Girls, the Debutantes, the Missfits, the Beat-Chics and the Ace Of Cups, are the stars of the show on this new vinyl volume in our captivating “Girls With Guitars” series, offering further confirmation that girls can do what boys do. This collection opens with “Get Away From Me” by the mean-sounding group Angels (probably not the “My Boyfriend's Back” group of that name), a slice of fiery she-rock recorded around 1965 that remained on the shelves at Swan Records in Philadelphia. Until Ace rescued it some 40 years later and closes with “Glue” by Ace Of Cups, a hippie band praised by Jimi Hendrix in a Melody Maker interview in 1967. Elsewhere, the boldly voiced Joyce Harris (I think Wanda Jackson meets Tina Turner) teams up with the Texas bar band The Daylighters to blow the roof off “I Got My Mojo Working,” teenage ice skater Debbie Williams sings with the male garage band The Unwriting Law, guitarist Chiyo embodies the Crescents on the instrumental “Pink Dominos” and, well, you get the picture. Those who wish can learn more about all the tracks in the chic inner sleeve containing a 3,000-word, image-filled track commentary by series compiler Mick Patrick.
