Description

For Stéphane Spira, the year 2009 marks two events in his musical journey: The release of the album Spirabassi in duo with Giovanni Mirabassi and his departure for New York where he will reside for about ten years. The album New Playground released in 2018 reflects this musical evolution across the Atlantic but also the birth of his son to whom the album is dedicated.
To celebrate his return to France, Stéphane reunites with Giovanni for the recording of the album Improkofiev in quartet. With Improkofiev, Stéphane is not seeking to repeat Spirabassi; He has long savored the pleasure of reinventing himself. Musically, his growing discography is a perfect illustration of this.
The title of the album chosen by Stéphane is not limited to the use of a simple play on words but also reflects a very inventive approach to the classical repertoire. The suite that constitutes the second half of the album is inspired by the Violin Concerto No. 1 by Sergei Prokofiev. However, the base material is transfigured to such an extent throughout the three pieces that its reconstruction can resemble a treasure hunt.
