Ajomasé
Description
Ajomasé, released in 1980 on his own label CAP, is the revolutionary debut album of legendary Nigerian percussionist Gasper Lawal. The result of four years of composition and self-production between London and Surrey Sound Studios, it brings together an elite group of musicians from Nigeria and the United Kingdom, playing on often handcrafted instruments, including a unique drum carved from the Nigerian bush.Born from Lawal's dissatisfaction with the constraints of labels and production standards, the album reflects an independent and innovative vision. Though difficult to categorize, Ajomasé immediately found its audience thanks to the support of iconic DJs like John Peel and Janice Long and distribution by Rough Trade, paving the way for international recognition.Invited by Peter Gabriel to the first WOMAD festival in 1982, Lawal then established himself on the world stage. Unreleased since its original pressing, the album is reborn today with a remastered reissue from the original tapes, enriched with liner notes by the artist. A vibrant, spiritual, and timeless work, Ajomasé returns to defy genres and captivate a new generation of listeners.Buy Ajomasé at the best price
