HALFWAY SOMEWHERE//LIMITED

Description

Nearly three decades after their last album, the ancestors of Acid Jazz, Galliano, are back with news of their new LP "Halfway Somewhere," which will be released on Brownswood Recordings. Born in the underground clubs and warehouse parties of London from the mid to late 80s, with their first single on the Acid Jazz label in 1988, Galliano emerged from a culture that encompassed music, dance, fashion, art, design, and writing. When they arrived as the first act on Gilles Peterson's Talkin' Loud label in 1990 with "Welcome to the Story" (produced by Chris Bangs, who coined the term Acid Jazz), dressed in Gabicci sweaters, beads, and caps, they captured a scene built on reinvention. For their first album since 1997, Rob Gallagher and his partner, singer Valerie Etienne, are joined by Galliano stalwarts Ernie McKone on bass, Crispin Taylor on drums, and Ski Oakenfull on keyboards (with guests including saxophonist Jason Yarde and percussionist Crispin 'Spry' Robinson). Where the old Galliano recycled the records they listened to in clubs, they now respond to the kaleidoscopic scene of global jazz—from London's Total Refreshment Centre to Chicago's International Anthem.
