Gainsbourg recorded his thirteenth album 'Aux armes et cætera' in Kingston in January 1979, accompanied by the team of Sly & Robbie, the most prominent rhythm section in Jamaica. This record, 100% reggae, finally brings Gainsbourg wide success: Aux armes et cætera reaches the top of the charts and sells two hundred thousand copies in less than two months. Encouraged by the acclaim of a younger audience, a series of concerts is scheduled for the end of the year. The Jamaican musicians from Aux armes et cætera are called back for the occasion. In the meantime, the album's sales have exceeded four hundred thousand copies. The concert program consists of the tracks from the album 'Aux armes et cætera', complemented by three old songs reorchestrated for the occasion: " Docteur Jekyll et Monsieur Hyde ", " Harley Davidson " and " Bonnie and Clyde ". In total, thirteen concerts will be held at the Palace. Spread over three nights, December 26, 27, and 28, 1979, the recordings are made on 24-track tape. The recording has been fully remixed and remastered; for the first time, the concert is presented here in its entirety and continuity, with, as in the 2005 edit, the alternative setlist (the instrumental Jam played on December 28 AND the cover of " Lola Rastaquouère " from the concert the night before). The track-by-track cleaning of the tapes has significantly improved clarity while preserving the full frequency spectrum on Gainsbourg's voice. A meticulous sound restoration work has also managed to save from oblivion two unreleased high-quality takes: " Daisy Temple " and " Docteur Jekyll et Monsieur Hyde ". The live recording at the Théâtre Le Palace is, forty years after the concerts, the unique testimony of Gainsbourg's stage resurrection, supported by a legendary band at the height of its creativity.
