When this hip-hop trio from Brooklyn emerged in 1992 with a unique style combining fast rap, dancehall chatter, and backward rhymes, with vocal imitations inspired by the Looney Tunes and skillfully arranged grooves, the world of rap had never heard anything like it. Following their first album F.U. : Don't Take It Personal, Nervous Breakdown (1994) proved that the Fu-Schnickens could deliver the goods. The album showcases improved lyrical maturity among the three members, but especially Chip Fu, whose hyperactive flow features more hilarious and colorful caricatured imagery than ever. From the opening track, "Breakdown," it's a frenzied and fast rollercoaster of originality that doesn't let up until the last song ends. The album reached number nineteen on the R&B Albums chart and managed to break into the Billboard Album chart. Nervous Breakdown is available on black vinyl.
