It is the story of a rebirth. The music of Jan Dismas Zelenka, long completely forgotten, is making a comeback in concerts over the past few decades thanks to new editions of the scores and enthusiastic performers. Born in Bohemia, Zelenka studied music in Prague and confirmed his talent in Dresden. Drawing from the currents of his time, he developed his own very distinctive style that earned him admiration during his lifetime. Frieder Bernius is among those who have long discovered Zelenka and who often perform his works. At the heart of his recording is the solemn Missa gratias agimus tibi with trumpets and timpani from 1730. The 17 short movements of this Missa are examples of Zelenka's creativity and writing talent. The Kammerchor Stuttgart, the Barockorchester Stuttgart, and the soloists Hannah Morrison, Franziska Bobe, David Allsopp, Thomas Hobbs, and Jonathan Sells are conducted by Frieder Bernius.
