D'instant en Instant

Description

Pursuing my quest for music through the encounters that mark a journey, that of André Charlier and Benoit Sourisse is very unique. It is long-lasting and continues to explore new horizons.
After "Smile" (released in 2014) which favored the spontaneity of gesture and the jazz repertoire, here is "D’instant en instant" which, while maintaining the spontaneous thrill, (without headphones or masks!) emphasizes writing, form, sound, and the connections with free improvisation.
These new compositions (including two by Benoit Sourisse) are specifically designed for the musicians and the color of the Trio, as "custom-made," then adjusted together in real trust and complicity. Cradled for years by classical music (and very recently with the release of the album of French melodies "En Sourdine" that I produced with Laurent Naouri) some pieces are certainly not foreign to the familiarity with this repertoire, particularly in the search for balances between rubato and tempo, the work of nuances and dynamics...
Three pieces are connected to our friend Claude Carrière: the "Duc de Charonne" written by Bob Dorough, the "Fleurette Africaine" by Duke Ellington, and "Waltz For C" that I wrote for Claude.
André Charlier, a fine chamber musician, proves to be more than ever a real-time orchestrator with very sensitive listening.
Benoit Sourisse is, for his part, of unparalleled sonic indulgence, in love with play and using his palette of colors with subtlety.
All three of us went to meet a poetic universe where surprise, mystery, and swing find their place so that the music of the Trio emerges "D’instant en instant."
