Those who believe that the Chopin of the Nocturnes is the least polyphonic will be proven wrong: in the discretion of her approach, Claire Huangci plays absolutely with ten fingers on texts where the left hand is only falsely the accompaniment of a melody: it is she who colors the psychological inflections, she who highlights through harmony, more than she underscores with the impassibility of an even rhythm: often the pianist brings out the effect of a barcarolle that this left hand knows how to produce. The most secretive music of Chopin finds a sovereign naturalness here, a tone of obviousness that makes one hope that this rising star of romantic piano will return to explore other works of the Polish composer from Paris, starting with the Mazurkas.
