Les larmes d'or

After the albums Singapour (2008) and Le Premier Homme (2012) and numerous concerts in France and abroad (Switzerland, Quebec, Senegal, Lithuania, Poland…), Frédéric Bobin returns with 12 new songs, still co-written with his brother Philippe. With a warm and close voice, Bobin sings a collection of folk songs whose acoustic atmospheres are reminiscent of early Dylan or the ballads of Johnny Cash and Springsteen. In addition to Frédéric's folk and electric guitars, we hear the double bass and drums of Mikael Cointepas, the cello of Hélène Piris, the harmonica of Vincent Dupuis, and we encounter Kent, who lends his voice to a humanist duet (Tant qu’il y aura des hommes). The folk ballad Le soir tombe sets the tone for this deep and melodic album, where the lyricism of the cello blends with the slide guitar of wide open spaces… Some dreamlike songs (La maison de mon grand-père, La fiancée) sit alongside realistic portraits of magnificent losers (the diptych Jimmy / Le dernier voyage de Sindbad) and even a self-portrait tinged with irony and nostalgia (Super 8). As for love stories, in Bobin's world, they are marginal (the sixties pop ballad Les étreintes intermittentes) or unfulfilled (La vie qu’on aurait pu vivre). Throughout the twelve tracks of this album with woody and stripped-down arrangements, the search for the right note, the right word, is constant, as in the text of Une goutte d’eau, which advocates a return to the essence of things, unadorned, without artifice. The album concludes with two songs of hope, in tribute to artists (Musique blessée, Les larmes d’or).
