Trio Opus 100 Sonatensatz et Notturno

Description

After their complete recording of Dvořák's chamber music with piano, the Busch Trio takes on three pieces by Franz Schubert, including his famous Piano and Strings Trio No. 2. This masterpiece was dedicated by the dying composer “to those who will take pleasure in it,” a sort of injunction to enjoy life as he was gradually leaving it. His Nocturne for piano trio (D.897) expresses a sense of anguish and tragedy that makes it one of the most eloquent examples of Romantic lyricism. Schubert's early period is represented by his very first piece for piano and strings, the Sonatensatz (D. 28), and its only movement, which he composed at the age of fifteen. Written following his expulsion from the Imperial Chapel of Vienna, just after the young Schubert had gone through puberty (the year he lost his mother), this work, still imbued with classicism, confronts in a troubling way the pieces of his Romantic maturity, composed between the joy of creation and the suffering of illness.
