Description

Charles Bordes: of the musicians from Franck's group, he is the most unjustly unknown. Co-founder of the Schola with d'Indy and Guilmant, his premature death limited his catalog to a few works for orchestra, a handful of pieces for piano, and especially a collection of melodies of exceptional value. Together with Michel Daudin, creator and organizer of the "Charles Bordes Days," the choice was made to include the complete set of melodies written to poems by Verlaine, which ensures the cohesion of the program. To complement this, the few pages for piano, very sophisticated, very difficult, notably playing rhythms of zortzico, dear to the Basque Country. Bordes' melodies are very personal in terms of language, and while some evoke Duparc or Chausson, others anticipate Poulenc. For such an ambitious project, a cast of high caliber was needed. Two voices share the melodies, two "Timpani" singers, soprano Sophie Marin-Degor and baritone Jean-Sébastien Bou. For the piano, we aimed very high, as this marks the debut at Timpani of one of the French piano stars: François-René Duchâble, who is rare on record, and whose performance will be praised in a repertoire and discipline where he is not expected, but where he proves to be true to himself: the best!
