François Couperin: Complete Works for Harpsichord “Mature artist, radiant virtuoso, exceptional stylist...” Diapason // Metronome Recordings presents the complete works for harpsichord by François Couperin in a unique box set to celebrate the 350th anniversary of his birth on November 10, 1668. Carole Cerasi, award-winning and recognized by Gramophone magazine for her recording of another great French Baroque composer, Elisabeth Jacquet La Guerre, embarked on this project to pay tribute to one of the greatest composers of the court of Louis XIV. Carole has felt a particular affinity for Couperin's music since she began playing the harpsichord at the age of 11. François Couperin was the most illustrious member of a musical dynasty, second only to Bach. He worked as a court organist and harpsichordist and earned the epithet "Le Grand" before the end of the 18th century. Carole Cerasi plays each of his four Books on a selection of harpsichords, including two rarely recorded historical instruments, to elucidate and express the very subtle "good taste" that Couperin and the court of Louis XIV praised in music. Carole Cerasi performed the second book of the harpsichord works from the album live at the first Utrecht Early Music Festival on Tuesday, August 28, at 3 PM, as part of the tribute to Couperin.
