Quatre saisons du Québec

Description

In the spirit of the dialogue that has existed for centuries between the great compositions dedicated to the seasons, this original creation draws its inspiration from the landscapes, colors, and musical traditions that shape Quebec's identity and offers a journey through the seasons of the territory. Designed as a tribute to the cultural richness of Quebec, it sensitively and proudly celebrates the popular, Acadian, Irish, and North American influences that have marked our heritage. The title is explicit. When Francis Choinière suggested I embark on the adventure of the "Four Seasons," I was inspired, following Piazzolla's example, to explore my musical roots: those that cradled my childhood, that made me dream of France, Ireland, Scotland, Acadia, and indigenous rhythms. Traditional music then? Yes. And it is fully embraced. Popular music? Absolutely! Nothing is more inspiring than hearing these tunes migrate from their homeland to the concert hall. Here are these four small concert pieces, which flow into one another. Each is accompanied by a short poetic text that sets the scene. Following the example of the works of Vivaldi and Piazzolla, these movements are written for string orchestra and solo violin. They make a fleeting nod to the Venetian master in the twist of a musical phrase, and even in the last dance, a tip of the hat to Piazzolla. Thus, listeners will become aware that the distance is slight between the baroque jig, Latin music, and the Quebec reel. --- François Dompierre ---.
