Folk Bitch Trio, made up of former high school friends Heide Peverelle (they/them), Jeanie Pilkington (she/her) and Gracie Sinclair (she/her), shares a deeply rooted sense of humor in its music, and that is what makes it come alive, far from the traps of a genre too often weighed down by its own seriousness. Now Would Be A Good Time, their debut album, tells striking and visceral stories, with biting irony and a touch of dark humor that recall writers like Mary Gaitskill or Ottessa Moshfegh. Their music evokes familiar sounds, but the songs are resolutely modern, infused with youth, moving through dissociative reveries, cruel breakups, sexual fantasies or media overload, all those little resentments and minor humiliations that mark the early twenties in the 2020s.
