When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king what...

It took almost four years for Fiona Apple to follow up her much acclaimed “Tidal,” her debut album. A strong woman, but one wounded since childhood (Shadowboxer, her first hit, described as brutally as it did angrily the rape that traumatized her for life), Fiona Apple, an exceptional singer, would be a kind of unlikely meeting point between PJ Harvey and Tori Amos, while still retaining a remarkable individuality. Her husky voice contrasts with a face of extraordinary purity (she is only 22), and the music could not simply be a copy of those singers’ work. Between deconstructed jazz and revised and corrected Carole King influences, Fiona Apple has definitely found her own style. Another superb record.
