Two dazzling countertenors meet around great arias from 17th century Italy, composed for two voices with Mediterranean sensuality and the art of counterpoint from Northern Europe. Filippo Mineccia and Raffaele Pe, two of the most dazzling countertenors today, come together in A due alti to offer an intoxicating recital of baroque duets. Listening to the record reveals that Handel was not the only one to compose masterpieces for this genre: the quality of these wonders is reflected in the growing interest of the public for other composers from this brilliant period, such as Steffani, Bononcini, Caresana, and Marcello. The enthusiasm, starting in 1680, of aristocratic circles for these duets was at its peak, especially in Italy and in the German territories, where opera composers would succumb to this delicate and popular genre. Claudio Cavina, who conducts the ensemble La Venexiana, brings to these moments of brilliant baroque his innate sensitivity, shaped by exceptional experience.
