In a world saturated with mediocre AI productions, here is the antidote. Written and recorded over five years in a home studio in Belfast, Gree, ffolliott’s debut album, captures the very essence of life, its imperfections and instability, blending a deeply personal record with decades of illustrations and sketches from his father’s archives. Released on Kitto Records, Gree is built from vinyl samples, analog equipment and an intimate guitar, all elevated by a voice steeped in fragments of childhood memories. The album also features unexpected contributions from Kaidi Tatham. Gree is the second release by the atypical artist ffolliott, following IDKWHY, quietly released on Rhythm Section’s Shouts 2021 compilation, and which benefited from support from KCRW, NTS and BBC Radio. The album explores childhood memories, family life and defining moments from the 90s to the present day. Rather than following a single narrative, Gree moves from one era to another and from one point of view to another, with a particular focus on what happens behind closed doors: what you hear through the walls, what remains unsaid or what you overhear.
