Recorded in Budapest between 1993 and 2006, this complete set of Haydn's string quartets performed by the Festetics Quartet is the most ambitious project of Michel Bernstein, the legendary founder of Arcana, who passed away a few months after the recording of the very last volume. Now available again, this reissue offers the first and only complete version on historical instruments of the 58 string quartets authenticated by the composer for the famous publishing house Artaria, presented in chronological order across 19 CDs. A reference edition, enriched by the detailed text of Hungarian musicologist László Somfai, one of the leading experts on Haydn. The Festetics, which has largely relied on the works of László Somfai, has thoroughly studied the original manuscripts.
