Violin Sonatas / Four Bagatelles

The fascinating music of Ferrucio Busoni by violinist Francesca Dego! Francesca Dego completes her celebration of Busoni's anniversary year with this program featuring both sonatas for violin and piano, as well as the four Bagatelles. The first sonata is closely inspired by Brahms' Violin Sonata in D minor. As for the second sonata, its unusual six-movement form is centered around a chorale by Bach taken from the "Notebook for Anna Magdalena," with the theme of the opening returning at the very end of the work. The Bagatelles were written for Egon Petri, whom Busoni's mother had fallen in love with. These playful works are much lighter and less serious in style than the two sonatas, reflecting a certain joy of living, unusual in Busoni's output.
