Le Messie (Version de 1741)

Description

The Messiah by George Friedrich Handel was performed for the first time in Dublin on April 13, 1742, and has been revised several times since then. However, there is an earlier version from 1741, based on the two autograph scores of the composer. Musicologist Malcolm Bruno has reconstructed this original version and published it with Breitkopf & Härtel. In this version, one can hear an independent woodwind section composed of two oboes and bassoons, and there are also new discoveries to be made in the arias. Bruno is excited about the first recording of the "Messiah of Ur" and hopes "that the listener will have the experience of hearing the Messiah as if it were the first time, as if the ink of Handel's manuscript were still wet."
