A reflection of mezzo-soprano Anne-Lise Polchlopek’s multifaceted personal journey, this program goes beyond the boundaries between repertoires to explore the universality of human existence, of its relationship to time, nature, and others: from the modesty of a traditional lullaby to the poetic intimacy of a mélodie or a lied, from the lyricism of a song to the brilliance of an opera or zarzuela aria. For each track on this album, one or more dreamed-of counterparts set the listener off on unique journeys: here, De Falla converses with Strauss and Messiaen while Chaminade and Giménez tease Mozart; there, Brel responds to Fauré as Parra sublimates Viardot. Accompanied by original arrangements for voice, guitar, and piano, “Gracias a la vida” offers a musical odyssey in which everyone can wander and build new bridges.
