Formed by drummer Bill Curtis in 1970, Fatback Band signed with Perception Records, which released this first album in America in 1972. Recorded at Blue Rock Studio in New York, Let's Do It Again, with the Fatback sound that would soon be patented, the album included originals such as Street Dance - which became a Billboard R&B hit in 1973 - Free Form, Take A Ride (On The Soul Train), Give Me One More Chance, Goin' To See My Baby and the title track. There were also covers of Jimmy Webb's Wichita Lineman, David Gates's Baby I'm A Want You and the evergreen Green Green Grass Of Home. Let's Do It Again has been out of print for many years and Ace is delighted to reissue it on vinyl - with the full cooperation of Fatback founder Bill Curtis. The Fatback Band (later shortened to simply Fatback) is an American funk and disco group popular in the 1970s and 1980s. Known for their rhythm and blues hits (Do the) Spanish Hustle, I Like Girls, Gotta Get My Hands on Some (Money), Backstrokin' and I Found Lovin', Fatback Band is best known as the group behind the 1979 single King Tim III (Personality Jock), generally regarded as the first hip-hop single in history. Formed in New York in 1970, The Fatback Band is a Bill Curtis concept, an experienced session drummer determined to fuse the New Orleans jazz “fatback” rhythm with funk music. In addition to Curtis, the original lineup included guitarist Johnny King, bassist Johnny Flippin, trumpeter George Williams, saxophonist Earl Shelton, flautist George Adams and keyboardist Gerry Thomas. The group specialized in “street funk.” It later also included conga player Wayne Woolford, singers Jayne and Gerry and Deborah Cooper, saxophonist Fred Demerey, guitarist Louis Wright and George Victory.
