Fat Freddy's Drop returns in force after the huge international success of their previous album, Black bird, in 2013. The seven companions recorded a new 9-track album in their own studio in Kilbirnie, the former HMV vinyl manufacturing plant from the 1950s. The album, mainly written in the studio, draws on the lexicon of the genres that have embodied the band’s sound up to now. Opening with Wairunga Blues, a slow-burning funk, this record takes us on a journey through hybrid reggae and jazz tinged with techno rhythms, carried by the introspective and tender voice of Joe Dukie, an essential signature element of this distinctive sound.
