From Brahms to Dietrich, violinist Fanny Robilliard and pianist Paloma Kouider summon, for this album, the ghosts of the Schumanns’ destiny. The program moves through the F-A-E Sonata or Brahms’s Second Sonata, works that marked their lives. Between them emerges, in filigree, the presence of Clara Schumann, a virtuoso musician and privileged creator. Linked by the key of A, Clara’s key, the works of Schumann and Brahms both carry within them the silent presence of the dearly loved being, each unfolding a facet of this passion. Thus, the melancholic sway of Schumann’s First Violin Sonata, then in the process of sinking, is answered by the radiant lyricism of Brahms’s, composed nearly 35 years later. In this tangle of ties and shadows, Fanny Robilliard and Paloma Kouider place Clara at the center of this program, without reducing her to the sole role of muse, recalling the impressive creative force of the composer. Her Three Romances bear witness to this, infusing this intimate and poetic musical journey: one of the last works from one of the century’s stars.
