Coup Fatal is an unprecedented encounter between Baroque music and Congolese music. This extraordinary project revolves around Fabrizio Cassol (musical director), Serge Kakudji (countertenor) and Rodriguez Vangama (conductor and guitarist), who have been developing for several years a “Baroque recital” unlike anything you have ever heard. Live, the show is staged and choreographed by Alain Platel, who takes the 13-piece ensemble far into a world where singing, traditional African instruments and dance become one. Baroque “hits” rub shoulders with traditional music in a fresh exploration of the repertoire, highlighting a surprising common dimension between the two worlds. The show premiered at Vienna’s legendary Burgtheater in June 2014 and was notably one of the highlights of the Avignon Festival this summer. A tour spanning several years across many countries is already scheduled and will stop at Théâtre Chaillot (Paris) in 2015.
