L'empreinte du père

Description

Fanfare Eyo'nlé takes us on a unique and authentic journey along its African roots, where rhythms, dances, and songs blend together. These eight musicians have ingeniously combined the heritage of Beninese festive music, found in the percussion, with the jazzy music of street brass bands, present in the brass arrangements. While the percussion sets the rhythm for the brass, the songs, meanwhile, are rooted in current affairs: democracy, AIDS, youth unemployment. But these songs also celebrate traditional entertainment, voodoo worship ceremonies, ritual funerals, and initiation rites. It sings, it moves, it dances—in short, it lives. Eyo nlé is one of the few African brass bands to introduce internationally this brass tradition from the countries around the Gulf of Guinea, where Yoruba afrobeat, Ghanaian high life, and Beninese voodoo music blend together. A remarkable musical mix enriched by the group’s experience and numerous collaborations. On this album, Eyo'nlé also presents a highly vocal repertoire blending standards from French chanson (Brassens, Gainsbourg...), African songs (Fela Kuti...), as well as polyphonies drawn from Beninese voodoo songs. All orchestrated in brass band style with afrobeat brass and traditional percussion.
